You Can Cure Stretch Marks

You can cure stretch marks

I am here to be your guiding light when it comes to stretch marks. I have spent hundreds of hours, I kid you not researching ways to improve stretch marks and in some cases even been able to remove them.

I know everything that you can possible know about stretch marks and treating them and I am here to give you the ultimate guide so that you can prevent stretch marks and you can cure stretch marks. At the very least I’m going to show you how to drastically improve their appearance so they are not noticeable to anybody but yourself.

This might turn into a series if you guys are interest in learning more about how I got rid of mine, and I can share some before and after once I get them from my dermatologist next week.

I will give you a little background first as to why I know so much about stretch marks.

Why I Know So Much About Stretch Marks

Having  had an eating disorder and having been severely malnourished at times and then bouncing back to a heavier weight after starting an anti anxiety medication I gained weight and lost about 40 pounds. I am still working to get some of that weight gain off in a healthy manner.

However going back and forth rather rapidly was hard on my skin and even despite my young age my skin just could not rebound quickly enough to prevent stretch marks and I was left with some deep heinous looking stretch marks on my hips and thighs, and even one behind my leg.

After I came off of the medication and lost the weight I had gained, finally reaching a healthy weight for my height and age I was left with a body full of stretch marks that I hated. I would cry non-stop just praying that they would go away. I was 22 years old and devastated that at such a young age I felt like my body was ruined.

Yes a lot of that negative self talk came from the eating disorder and body dysmorphia that can accompany an eating disorder that can accompany it, however I still knew that in order to regain my self confidence I was willing to do and buy pretty much anything that showed the slight promise of improving my stretch marks.

I am here to tell you what works, what is a total waste of time and money, and how you can regain your beautiful skin again and feel confident wearing a bikini or being naked around your significant other.

You can cure stretch marks

First of all…What are Stretch Marks and What Causes Them?

Stretch marks are the result of rapid weight gain or loss, either due to dieting, pregnancy, illness, or in my case medication that caused weight gain.

Your skin does not have the elasticity to accommodate this rapid expanding and as result, the stretching causes the middle layer of your skin, known as the dermis, to tear allowing the deeper skin layers to show through forming stretch marks.

Your dermis has strong inter connected fibers that allow for your skin to stretch as your grows at a normal rate, however rapid growth, or weight gain can cause the skin to over stretch and break those fibers.

The tears in the dermis allow the blood vessels below the skins surface to show through, which is why when stretch marks first occur they look red or purple, or as my dermatologist described them as “angry”. I agree they looked red and very angry and aggravated.

If you are able to treat your stretch marks as early as possible when they are still red, you actually have a chance at removing them completely and cure stretch marks forever.

I was able to remove several of mine completely with early intervention and they are now totally non-existent, even a huge one on the back of my knee, so know it is possible to cure stretch marks.

Older ones that have turned white or silvery can still be treated, but they are much harder to treat as they are no longer fresh and the depression (indentation caused by the stretching of the skin) is deeper.

I want women to know that there is hope and you can cure stretch marks, even if not completely you can reduce them to the point where they are not noticeable.

Tried and Tested Techniques that Cost Me and Arm and a Leg But Did NOTHING!

Cocoa Butter– It is hydrating and nourishing for your skin and it definitely will not hurt your efforts to get rid of your stretch marks but it did nothing to help how they looked after they had already appeared.

Trilastin Stretch Mark Cream– I spent about 200 dollars on this cream and the “Hydro Thermal Accelerator” cream that they claim if you apply first helps to maximize your results and remove stretch marks more quickly.

So naturally being desperate and wanting so badly to believe that this was my miracle cream I bought it.

I avidly applied it and held onto hope that it would drastically reduce my stretch marks in 3 weeks or less, but at the end of those three weeks I was out a lot of money and saw zero improvement in my stretch marks. I was devastated.

“TriLASTIN-SR stretch mark cream works by reducing the visibility of stretch marks by targeting the epidermal (top layer of the skin), providing it with the support it needs for the natural regeneration of collagen and elastin. This makes the upper-most layer of the skin thicker and less translucent, visibly reducing the appearance of stretch mark scarring” source

That is what the product claims and I spent hours scrolling through the before and after pictures of men and women who had apparently used this cream to solve all of their stretch marks problems.

Now knowing what I do, I know that those photos were either photo shopped or the people had received laser treatments to help drastically reduce the appearance of their stretch marks. I really felt cheated and this experience left a bad taste in my mouth about product claims and testimonials that had been listed on this site.

As a young girl who felt so insecure about her stretch marks I felt swindled and deceived which I had been. If it works for some people than that is great and makes me happy, I am just sharing my honest and unbiased opinion.

I am want you to know what I have done to help heal my once gruesome stretch marks and give you hope that you too can achieve such results!

You can cure stretch marks

However I want you to know that you can cure stretch marks or drastically reduce their appearance! I am proof!

What Has Worked For Me and Treatments I Recommend for Stretch Marks

Retin-A was something that I luckily found early enough when my stretch marks were still red and went to see a dermatologist to ask her if anything could be done to help reduce the appearance of my stretch marks.

She saw that my marks were new and still bright red so she prescribe Retin A which I was to apply everyday in a small amount over my stretch marks. However if you don’t have the time or money to get Retin A from a dermatologist because it can be very expensive I highly recommend it’s cousin Retinol which is a lower strength version, but is still very powerful for getting rid of stretch marks

What is Retin-A?

It is a derivative of Vitamin A and is only available with a prescription. It is used for a variety of skin issues, one of which is stretch marks. It can also be called Tretinoin or Retinoic Acid.

It comes in different strengths ranging from .025%, 0.05%, and 0.1%. Your dermatologist can prescribe the strength that he or she thinks will work the best for you.

However you can also buy it online but the potency will not be as strong, before I saw a dermatologist I used this cream

It works best on new stretch marks that are still red and less than 6 months old. Retin- A works by exfoliating parts of the epidermis, the outer layer of the skin and exfoliating your stretch marks allowing the Retin- A to stimulate the production of collagen production to help fill in your stretch marks.

You Can Cure Stretch Marks

Utilizing this treatment provides a plumping effect that helps to reduce the appearance of stretch marks and helps to cure stretch marks.

If you start treatment with Retin-A early enough on your new stretch marks you can actually get rid of them. I was able to completely get rid of several stretch marks I had on my outer thighs and inner thighs by simply but diligently applying the Retin-A on a daily basis to cure stretch marks.

Retin A also helps to boost the turnover rate of your skin cells helping the stretch marks to shorten in length and decrease the depth of the marks as well.

It doesn’t come without side effects however as peeling is very likely to occur due to the exfoliating effect of Retin-A so it is really important to also keep the areas you are treating hydrated and moist to experience the best results and reduce any discomfort associated with this treatment.

Non-prescription retinoid creams are available, but will be far less powerful than those that your dermatologist can prescribe.

You can get even more results by combining your Retin- A treatment with Vitamin C cream, lotion, or gel as Vitamin C helps to boost collagen production as well.

You can cure stretch marks

I recommend also upping the amount of Vitamin C you consume orally as well (I started taking Vitamin C gummy chews from Trader Joes and I swear it made a difference in the texture of my skin and stretch marks)

Honestly the best topical treatment is one that I made myself and started off applying gradually twice a week until my skin got used to it and then I applied it about four times a week.

This treatment has been researched to be highly effective and it is a combination There are treatments that have been researched and have been proven to be effective for dealing with stretch marks.

You can get 0.05% tretinoin (Retin-A), from a dermatologist, and 10% vitamin C serum online and apply it daily.

The combination of Retin A and vitamin C works very well on new stretch marks to fade their appearance and helps to change and renew the skin underlying the stretch marks helping your cure stretch marks altogether.

If you begin using this treatment remember to stay out of the sun as Retin A and the other products mentioned can make your skin susceptible and sensitive to the sun.

If you do go out in the sun make sure to heavily apply a broad spectrum SPF like this one so that your skin doesn’t burn.

I also used a fraxel laser treatment to help with my stretch marks that I can go more in depth about if you want on another post. I might do a “You Can Cure Stretch Marks”

Ok I hope that this has been helpful for you guys, I know how stressful it can be to see these little assholes appear on your body but have no fear, there is ALWAYS something that can be done to help cure stretch marks!

This was so helpful – I have been thinking for a long time about going to a dermatologist for mine and now I know to ask about Retin-A specifically. Thank you for your honesty about expensive products that obviously don’t work!

Thanks so much for reading, I also recommend fraxel treatment if they are older, I have done both and found great success. You don’t have to live with them and after reading enough websites that just told me to embrace them, I was like “nope!” Time to take action haha, so many products claim success and a total cure and it’s bs, but I really love Retin-A

    Wow Harriet, thank you! 🙂

One question… would you recommend trying any other stretch mark cream, there are so many on the market, I just want the best one.

    Thank you for your help!

Honestly I would recommend making your own using the products I mentioned including the retin a cream, glycolic acid, and maybe some Shea Butter or vitamin E oil mixed in. It will be much more effective than any cream you can buy 🙂

I’ve been using Retin-A for about 1 month. The cream is pretty good so far and I’m pretty sure that I read somewhere that you will see noticeable results in around few weeks. And use Retin A 0.1 % because I’ve heard that it works the best, I’m not sure but I’ve read it on a lot of websites.
My insurance would not pay for it. My friend told me how to get Retin-A cheap and easy. She gave me a code “RET365GET” and she said ‘Just search in Google for it.’ Good Luck!

So great… but my stretch marks are white and faded. You’d think that’d be enough, but there are SO MANY of them that I literally just hide my body.
