I wanted to create a series on my blog that honors and recognizes the amazing accomplishments of female founders and shines a light on women who are truly killing the entrepreneurial game.

I have always tried to have a wide variety of female role models in my life who inspire me and motivate me to kick ass constantly and be my best and one such lovely lady whom I wanted to feature this week is Alak Vasa, the founder and CEO of Elements Truffles.

Let me preface this by saying it takes a lot for me to truly love something and eat it everyday, and I am ADDICTED to this chocolate!

I can’t go to bed at night unless I’ve had about half a bar of Elements Truffles, it’s just the most lovely ritual to end the night with a cup of tea and half of a chocolate bar and you can do so without feeling any guilt at all!

Elements Truffles chocolates are raw. free from any preservatives, emulsifiers or refined sugar and sweetened just with locally sourced honey from New Jersey.

They are also extremely unique in the sense that they are the ONLY CHOCOLATE on the market that is flavored with pure essential oils and never use any thing synthetic including flavoring essences like most flavored chocolate brands do, and trust me you can taste the difference with every bite. It just tastes luxurious.

It is hand-crafted in micro batches and is organic, free from dairy, free from GMOs or any artificial flavors and infused with Ayurvedic super foods like Lavender, Beetroot, Turmeric, Ginger, and Cardamom just to name a few.

They also have the most bomb turmeric infused drinking chocolate that is the perfect way to warm up on a chilly night or I even have used it to make a blended iced hot chocolate, so delicious.

Ok enough food fantasizing now let me introduce you to the female powerhouse herself!

Introducing Alak Vasa of Elements Truffles

I was lucky enough to catch up with Alak recently and dig deeper into her journey as a female founder and entrepreneur.

When did you get bitten by the entrepreneur bug?

I never really had a goal to become an entrepreneur. I quit my job on Wall Street because I was convinced that I was meant to do something else. What that something else was, was very hazy at the time. But I knew I had to stop doing what I was doing, to embark on the journey of discovering what I was really meant to do. And just like that, even without me realizing, I had started my entrepreneurial journey.

Who were your mentors that encouraged and inspired you to start Elements Truffles?

There are so many people responsible for where Elements Truffles is today. From family, friends to complete strangers. The universe has been very kind to me. At the core an inner voice inspired me, my meditation practice enabled me listen to it and my husband inspired me to follow it :). And now he is an integral part of Elements Truffles.

Can you share your relationship with Ayurveda, when it began and what it means to you and why you made it a cornerstone of your business?

My relationship with Ayurveda began at a very young age. The science was passed on from generations and naturally integrated into my lifestyle. However, I never valued it. About 12 years ago, I learnt to meditate. And as I grew in the practice, I became more aware of the food I was eating. I noticed that I was integrating a lot of elements of the Ayurvedic lifestyle, that was naturally a part of our life growing up.

Ayurveda, also known as sister science to Yoga was now taking me back to my roots. So I wanted to create a line of chocolates that are not only healthy and tasty but also integrated this beautiful science that focuses on bringing balance and simplicity in lifestyle.

What is the most difficult thing about building a consumer brand from scratch?

Capturing the essence of your brand  and who you are, such that it is communicated to your consumer in a glance.

Finding the balance between creating something that the consumer is familiar with and giving them an experience they have never had before.

Staying true to your values and not getting swayed by the market forces

Not giving into shortcuts that may feel like quick wins or result into cost savings which is important at early stage – example – using plastic wrapper – which was cheaper but we stayed away..

You have managed to create quite an audience of dedicated fans and customers who vehemently support your brand, how did you establish that?

I don’t think I can take any credit for this. Having started this business, one thing I have experienced is that there is so much goodness in this world. Everyone I have met on this journey has been so supportive and encouraging. People want to support you when you have the intention of doing something good. They go out of their way to help you.  And it is just that intention of spreading happiness that has led to having such a beautiful family of dedicated fans and customers.

What advice would you give to a young girl who is interested in one day starting her own business?

Go for it ! Don’t wait for the perfect time – it never comes. The seed is already there, start watering it with all your skills and resources. Put 100% effort and have the patience and perseverance to see it grow.

Wise Words from Alak Vasa you NEED TO HEAR!

Starting your own company, is like riding a bike. It is all about learning to balance. The balance between passion and letting go, the heart and the mind, orderliness and spontaneity. And when you are connected to the self, this balance happens effortlessly. Spend at least 20 minutes every day connecting to yourself by practicing meditation.

Something that really tickles my pickle about this amazing company is the way in which their chocolate is made which I find so incredibly cool. All of their chocolate is infused with “love and Vedic chants” while it’s being created.

They are also made by meditators and everyone on the Elements Truffles team is a meditator and the chocolate is infused with Vedic chants.

Elements Truffles truly is a unique and amazing brand with a very loyal and dedicated following ( seriously just search #elementstruffles on IG and you can see the chocolate love).

The company centers on spirituality and uses the “purest ingredients” (raw organic chocolate from the  finest quality fair trade cacao from Ecuador and Peru and “honey extracted ethically from hard-working local honey bees of New Jersey”) with the intention to spread “happiness and love.”

And trust me when I tell you that you can taste that love in every bite!!

I have never found a bar of chocolate or a company that I love as much as Elements Truffles. To me most chocolate bars you can buy at the store just taste cheap and processed and they don’t have that pure rich quality I am looking for, but every flavor and every bar that Elements creates is magic, truly.

I wasn’t even a fan before of flavored chocolate but as you bite into the raw dark chocolate and taste those subtle inclusions of lavender or cardamom it just delights your sense and makes you smile.

It also it chocolate that not only tastes good but does good as well with 25% of the profits go towards supporting wholesome education for under-privileged children in tribal regions of India– a philosophy of giving that defines the brand at its core.

Alak Vasa has proven herself to be a force to be reckoned with in the world of chocolate and I can’t wait to see all that this company accomplishes and achieves as it continues to grow.

They have also offered Young Fit N Fabulous readers a 15% discount to try any Elements Truffles Bar they like with the code YFF15 which can be used on their website.
