A Change of Direction and the Power of Gratitude

Power of gratitude

It might seem a bit strange to be touching on this topic as I sit here at 1 am babysitting working my third job as I try to get my own business off the ground to make ends meet but I have been feeling in a rather grateful mood recently.

I truly believe that if you can change your attitude you can see your life change for the better.

Call it the law of attraction, the power of positive thinking or whatever you like but I know that when I implemented positive thinking and a daily gratitude journal into my life, I noticed a HUGE difference in how I approached and viewed every aspect of my life.

It can feel difficult in today’s world to practice gratitude. With the huge reach that social media has in our everyday lives it feels like you can’t escape people’s negative opinions or political rants that can really put a damper on your mood.

Of course I am not saying by any means to not be informed about what is going on in the world, because knowledge is power and you want to be able to actively participate in discussions about the important challenges our world is facing right now.

However from hateful political crap to terrorist attacks both foreign and domestic it can make a lot of people wonder what they have to be grateful for and I get it.

It’s late and this might seem like a bit of a brain dump type of post but I want to live in reality and share my genuine feelings with you guys. I love a good fitness post or healthy food post as much as the next girl.

My Thoughts and Feelings Currently

Looking at beautifully cultivated and crafted images of designer clothes can put anybody in a better mood. However I have done quite a bit of an overall in the direction of where I want this blog to go and that is more towards to the side of self- improvement.

I like a good post about collagen eye patches as much as the next girl, but I don’t only want to see people’s highlight reels anymore. I want to see raw real emotion and I want people to come together and raise each other up.

We always can work on improving ourselves and as much as I love going to the gym and eating clean and looking a certain way, at the end of the day if you have and ugly soul or personality it doesn’t matter how much designer crap you own.

My favorite bloggers or Youtuber’s are the ones who share the good the bad and the ugly because it humanizes them. Of course we want people to think that we have perfect lives sometimes, I know I did for a hot second until I realized that perfect is so utterly boring and alienating.

Be Real and Authentic!

It’s so much better to connect with people on a real and personal level, connect over human experiences that people don’t want to talk about because those topics are deemed taboo.

I am tired of shying away from the hard topics and writing fluff pieces about pretty things. I’m not saying that I won’t anymore but what I want this blog to become is something that encourages women to become their best selves.

This can be either through fitness, diet tips, skincare, but more importantly intellectual and emotional growth.

Maybe that comes in the form of embracing your body that you have spent so long hating and trying to mold into some unattainable ideal. Maybe that means copping to the fact that you don’t want to read Dante’s Inferno and you’d rather the latest trashy romance novel.

Do You!

However I want to add that the first step that I really took to cultivating this new perspective was to practice gratitude on a daily basis. Even when everything felt like it was going wrong I found something to be grateful for.

If you feel drained emotionally, or like everything in life isn’t going your way, your car got stolen, your boyfriend dumped you whatever it may be, I am going to bet you any money that you can still find something to be grateful for.

Do you still have a roof over your head? Money to buy food? Maybe a dog that loves you more than life? Are you healthy? Did you wake up this morning, still alive and breathing and able to walk and talk?

Be grateful!

The Power of Gratitude and Why You Need to Practice It Everyday!

Science has proven that people who regularly recognize and verbalize what they are grateful for tend to be happier and healthier human beings.

According to this siteGratitude means thankfulness, counting your blessings, noticing simple pleasures, and acknowledging everything that you receive.

It means learning to live your life as if everything were a miracle, and being aware on a continuous basis of how much you’ve been given.

Gratitude shifts your focus from what your life lacks to the abundance that is already present. In addition, behavioral and psychological research has shown the surprising life improvements that can stem from the practice of gratitude.

Giving thanks makes people happier and more resilient, it strengthens relationships, it improves health, and it reduces stress”

The Power of Gratitude

Practicing gratitude is one of the best things that you can do for yourself. Just by making a few mental adjustments brings so much benefit for your life.

If you take the time out of your day, even just five minutes everyday you drastically improve the quality of your life. You will soon realize all of the many things you have to be grateful about.

Practicing gratitude on a regular basis will help you to be in a better mood because you will naturally become a happier and more positive person.

It helps you to be optimistic and reinforces a more positive attitude that you can take with you into your everyday life. It reinforces itself, the more you practice being grateful the more you will realize how much you have to be grateful for every single day.

My favorite gratitude journal is this one and it is just a great way to start the day or the end the day. It includes prompts if you need ideas about how to start your gratitude journal and I just love it!

Grateful People Are Happier People!

People that are grateful and practice gratitude on a regular basis are likely to have more friends and make friends more easily. Think about the people in your life and I’m sure you’ll be able to identify at least one who is a constant complainer.

They always have something negative to say and that is ALL they focus on without the slightest self -awareness of realizing how un enjoyable they are to be around.

So there is my brain dump for the day that I will probably be positing sometime this morning as I realize I am finishing this off around 2 am.

However if you guys have any advice or things you want to share about the direction that I want to take this blog than I am all ears.

I want to spread love, positivity, gratitude, and compassion around like glitter because frankly we just don’t get enough of it nowadays!

Love always,

Harriet

Harriet, We were very pleased as we read this blog today on GRATITUDE. It is good to realize designer brand “anything” is nice to own, wear and/or display…however, it does not make us who we are where it matters…our soul. Since a very special person in our lives became ill, we must say, it made us realize how very “proud” we were, to include wearing designer clothes, always being sure to present ourselves as THE PUBLIC dictated in our professions and always making sure we lived up to their same expectations. One day, upon a visit to a cancer and neuromuscular treatment center, we, especially myself, observed TOO MANY people, whom we are sure, never had the privileges of enjoying life EVER in a normal way, as so many of us have and remain to do. Some had no hair, some a bit of hair and others were so deformed due to their illness….and we could go on and on. We do not need to. Suffice to say, I never again, felt too proud to walk along someone I love with all my heart, while they are walking with a small oxygen tank and nasal cannula, fighting for every breath they take. I was so ashamed that I had let myself become, to a point, so concerned as to what society was observing in regards to our “appearances”. I realized, at that very moment in time, that by the Will of God, I could be one of these so unfortunate, disabled people…who by the way, always would smile back at me when I acknowledged them.
