Hi I’m Harriet and I am addicted to my iPhone….anybody else?
It feels like an extension of myself and I use it to do just about everything from texting my fiancé about date night plans, ordering in some Postmates on a lazy Tuesday night, and managing my business!
Recently I realized that I was breaking out pretty consistently on only one area of my face, my right cheek, ugh!
Acne sucks, and having a big cluster of pimples on your face definitely dampens your mojo.
Little did I know that my best friend, aka my iPhone was the culprit of my acne marked skin!
I didn’t know about cell phone face acne, but I sure do now!
Your cell phone causing acne is an all too common occurrence nowadays and I literally had no idea, but check this out
A study was done about the cleanliness of cell phones and 780 swab samples were taken. Half of them from the phones and the other half from their owner’s’ hands.
The study showed the 92 percent of the subjects’ hands and 82 percent of their phones were covered with bacteria!! Sooo gross!
Your Cell Phone Has More Bacteria Than a Toilet Seat! Just that thought alone makes me pretty sick to stomach!
People talk on their phones in the bathroom… just about everywhere.
If fecal matter is being found in tanning beds across the country you can bet your bottom dollar that it is also present on your phone!
We clean our hands, hair, house, but why don’t we ever clean our cellphones? Especially considering how much we use them!
According to this article “bacteria is one of the main causes of acne, which is why it’s important to clean off your screen regularly,” says Debra Jaliman, M.D., a NYC-based dermatologist and author of Skin Rules: Trade Secrets From a Top New York Dermatologist.
“Anytime a patient comes in complaining about acne, the first thing I ask them is what side of their face they usually hold their phone against.
“What happens when you hold your phone up to your face is that there is a mechanical stimulation (the pressure against the oil glands) that triggers them to produce more oil,” says Jaliman.
“Then, the bacteria from the screen—and the heat that it gives off that breeds more bacteria—mixes together and results in a blemish.”
How to Prevent Your Cell Phone Causing Acne!
- Use headphones or earphones while talking on the phone! This takes away the skin to screen contact and eliminates the possibility of breakouts
- Wipe it Down! By using these sanitizing wipes you can help wipe away 98 percent of the bacteria on your cellphone helping to eliminate any future breakouts. For the best results do it once every week or two!
- Don’t Take Your Phone into the Bathroom! If you gotta go leave your phone in your purse and don’t touch it again until you have washed your hands, or if you are at home leave your phone in another room, because even the act of flushing can spread bacteria onto your phone. Ew!
Make sure you are wiping down your phone on a consistent basis to avoid unnecessary breakouts and germs. Your skin and your health will thank you!
